Other Writing & Media

As a journalist with over twenty years of experience, I have written for numerous publications on a wide variety of topics. Though I write regularly on cancer and treatment, I also frequently cover entertainment, parenting, education, and mental health. I’ve been an Online Journalism Award and Skin Cancer Foundation Media Award nominee.

In my capacity as a senior writer for Salon, I’ve covered breaking news, done longform journalism, interviewed celebrities, and written personal essays. I’ve also appeared in the New York Times, the Guardian, Time, the Los Angeles Times, Wired, Yoga Journal, and other national and international newspapers and magazines.

These are a few of the stories I’ve been proud to put my name to.

“A Second Embrace, With Hearts and Eyes Open,” New York Times Modern Love

“Mr. Rogers Was a Badass,” Salon

“I’m Still an Optimist,” The Guardian

“The Iceberg,” Los Angeles Times

“My Daughter Nearly Died of Sepsis: Here’s How You Can Stay Safe,” Health

“I Loved Being a Mom of Young Kids, but I’m Not Sad They’re Growing Up,” The Guardian

As a host for Salon Talks, I have interviewed actors, directors, authors, and newsmakers. I’ve been a regular contributor for the CBC and for WNYC’s “The Takeaway,” and I’ve also been a guest on

The Today Show
NBC Nightly News
Talk of the Nation
The Brian Lehrer Show

and other television and radio programs. Some recent conversations:
